Liedeke Bulder was born and raised a stone’s throw from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Art runs in the Bulder genes. She has been painting and drawing as long as she can remember and worked as an artist for most of the thirty-some years since immigrating to the United States in 1969. She received formal training at the Academy of Art in Utrecht, the Netherlands and has continued her studies over the years with various American and European artists.
She is a versatile artist who owned and operated a successful decorative painting and stenciling business in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for many years executing many public and private commissions. Her work was featured in the UTILITY PLUS exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and in the PRAIRIE SCHOOL ARCHITECTURE exhibit in 1982 at the Minnesota Museum of American Art. In 1988 one of her flower pastels was selected for the annual Art in Bloom exhibit poster at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. In Nevada her art was featured in 2001 in the Legislative Exhibition Series sponsored by the Nevada Arts Council. From 2000-2001 Bulder’s work was part of the Nevada Arts Council statewide touring exhibition NIGHT. She was commissioned by the Ruby Mountain Chamber Music Festival to create the poster designs based on Great Basin wildflowers for their annual summer music festival. After living in the Great Basin Desert area at the foot of the Ruby Mountains for thirteen years, she and her husband followed their dream and moved to the Garden Island of Kauai. In the islands her work is represented by Halele`a Galleries in Hanalei and Poipu and by Cedar Street Galleries in Honolulu. She is a regular participant in the Kauai Society of Artists where her artwork has been included every year in the heavily juried ART KAUAI show and received numerous awards. One of her moth orchid pieces was exhibited at the Honolulu Academy of Arts in the ARTISTS OF HAWAII 2009 show. Artists of Hawaii is the longest running and most prestigious state-wide juried art show in the islands.
