Born and raised a stone's throw from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Art runs in the Bulder genes and Liedeke has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. She received formal academic training in the Netherlands and studied with various American and European artists through the years.
For her, as a contemplative, all art is spiritual and a celebration of the divine, creative dance.
She works in mixed media on paper, canvas, and wood, applying in delicate washes her signature addition of bistre, the European Old Master pigment made from soot, thereby creating haunting memento mori, symbols of dying and rising. When working on wood, she pays close attention to the grain and lets a textural process unfold in oils, acrylics, ink, and pencil.
"Art for me is about making order out of the chaos of our human condition," she says. Shaped by her Dutch roots and her meditation practice, she is inspired by nature always, finding metaphors for our human journeys everywhere but especially in her secret, backyard garden and her daily ocean views from her upcountry Kauai location.
